Radics at the IAEA: Advancing Digital I&C Software Verification and Validation
23.02.2026March 2-4, 2026 - representatives of Radics and Radiy participated in the VVER Technology Obsolescence and Ageing Workshop, organized by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and hosted by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland (STUK) in Vantaa, Finland.
The companies were represented by Nataliia Rvachova, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Radics, and Kostiantyn Leontiiev, Technical Director of Radiy.
The workshop brought together regulators, nuclear power plant operators, technical support organizations, and industry vendors from countries operating VVER reactors to discuss key challenges related to technology obsolescence and ageing in nuclear power plant systems.
Ukraine — one of the countries operating a significant fleet of VVER reactors — was highlighted during the discussions, with Radics and Radiy recognized for their extensive practical experience in modernization and lifecycle management of these systems.
Participants explored international experience in addressing the obsolescence of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems and the ageing of electrical control cables, both critical for the safe and reliable operation of VVER reactors. The workshop provided a platform to exchange operational and regulatory perspectives on modernization strategies, lifecycle management, and replacement of ageing equipment.
Special attention was also given to challenges related to maintaining reliable supply chains and ensuring long-term nuclear safety under evolving technological and geopolitical conditions.

The event concluded with interactive breakout sessions where participants shared experience and identified common challenges and potential solutions for managing equipment ageing and obsolescence across the global VVER fleet.
The workshop served as an important platform for international cooperation and knowledge exchange among regulators, operators, and technology providers working to support the continued safe operation of VVER nuclear power plants.
